If these walls could talk they’d never run out of things to say. These walls would be the life of the cocktail party, a great motivational speaker, the most informed politician, and one helluva storyteller. Maybe you’ve caught on to this too but this is a subculture of our city. It’s a cluster of people that come together, opposite and the same; a conundrum. We’ve laughed till we’ve cried, cried till we’ve laughed, argued politics, cracked lame or perverted jokes, relaxed, wound down, got all wound up, or just felt safe and at home. The patrons here say, “Yeah, I’m going to the pub.” and if someone replies, “What pub?” we give them a funny look because this is the only pub in our book.
This year marked ten years after Tom and Amy Scott first opened the doors of McGrath’s and my, what a marvelous ten years they’ve had! On Saturday they collected all the help they could find, roasted some pigs, got a beer truck, a band, and set up an Anniversary Block Party. People ate well, drank, listened to the music, participated or watched an oyster shucking contest and a wing eating contest, and had a good time. Hell, even the mayor stopped by…
After much anticipation, Adam and Danielle Sturges proudly opened the doors to their new restaurant four weeks ago. People poured into the restaurant on the first day to finally see the completely renovated and remodeled building, try Chef Ben Beaver’s food, explore the drink menu containing 200 different drinks, and partake in the extensive craft beer selection. It was a success! Almost all of the feedback they received was accompanied by a glowing recommendation…
So I’m pleased to introduce my new bosses, Adam and Danielle,
my General Manager, Justin Mcginniss,
and Chef Ben Beaver.
Let me tell you, they did an impeccable job…
Hours: Monday thru Saturday 11am to 2am and Sunday 10am to 2am (Brunch is served on Sundays from 10am until 2pm)
That’s right, folks! This Friday, May 4th is my last day bartending at Chili’s in Harrisburg. After 5+ years of margarita making, kids drinks blending, fajita smelling, sanity slipping, corporate bullshit… I’M OUT!
I love tending bar. I’ve met so many wonderful people over the last 8 years… but I prefer to work with and for people who really believe in what they’re doing at a restaurant. Meaning, I want to serve craft beer and a well thought out menu. And I’d like to be able to tell a few dirty jokes. Fortunately, I’m going to have the opportunity to do that!
Opening Soon! The Sturges’ Speakeasy!
And I promise to keep you all updated.
Its a little known fact that the service industry is a big cluster fuck subculture. These are the biggest personalities, the hopeful, the witty and crass, the sick and tired, scholars, drug addicts, alcoholics, lifers, artists, etc. This is my subculture and these are illustrations of people surrounding me that I love, even if our time together is brief…
This is Maurer and Jay Jay.
